New traffic data at Mechelininkatu and Crusell bridge

The traffic situation awareness in Mechelininkatu and Crusell bridge is improving due to new traffic data sources. New sensors for traffic data and air quality are being installed this spring in Mechelininkatu and Crusell bridge in a pilot conducted by the Portuguese company Ubiwhere.

The data produced in the pilot can be utilized by third parties as well. The open data will be available in Jätkäsaari Mobility Lab’s website later on this spring. Info about the data sources will be added along with other info regarding open data on mobility, traffic and air quality at the data and materials section of our website (https://mobilitylab.hel.fi/materials/).

ITS-G5 equipment available for testing until end of April

ITS-G5 roadside and on-board unit are available until end of April for those interested in testing them in the Jätkäsaari area.

C-ITS (Co-operative Intelligent Transport Systems) tests can be arranged using Commsignia Onboard Unit ITS-OB4 and Roadside Unit ITS-RS4 V2X. Both units are ‘hybrids’ that can use both cellular networks (C-V2X) and wi-fi (ETSI ITS-G5 standard).

ITS-G5’s first ‘Day 1’ messages now in use communicate for approaching vehicles mainly safety related issues:

  • emergency vehicles (approaching or stationary)
  • road works (temporary or moving)
  • broken or stationary vehicle on the road, traffic jam
  • active safety system (e.g. automated emergency braking) activated in a vehicle ahead

These messages can be demoed or tested. The test equipment is provided by Vediafi Oy and is free for testing through Mobility Launchpad project until the end of April 2021.
